When it comes to remodelling your bathroom, deciding whether to go for a bathtub or a shower is a pretty big decision – and not one that's easy to reverse if you change your mind later!
So it's important to put a bit of thought into this. Here are some key considerations to bear in mind when choosing between a shower and a bath...
Shower vs Bath: Things to Consider
1) Size
How much space do you have in your bathroom? Showers take up less room than bathtubs, so if you're working with limited space, a shower is probably your best bet. If space is no object to you, you have more flexibility in choosing between the two options.
2) Water usage
Baths tend to use more water than showers (unless you take very long showers on a regular basis). It's always good to try and conserve water where possible, both for environmental and financial reasons.
If your household is on the larger side, choosing a bath over a shower could result in some rather hefty water bills. It's also worth considering how long it takes to fill a bathtub vs how long it takes to have a shower – if you've got to get a lot of people cleaned up in one evening, that might be a point in favour of showers!
Of course, if you don't live with that many people, the amount of water used each time someone has a bath might not be such a big concern for you.
3) Accessibility
Getting in and out of a shower enclosure tends to be easier than stepping in and out of a bath. If you or someone you live with struggles with mobility issues, this should definitely be a deciding factor when you're considering whether to get a bathtub or a shower for your bathroom.
4) Personal preference
One of the most obvious questions to ask yourself is this: what do you prefer? Taking showers or taking baths? If you take one more frequently that the other, than your answer should be pretty obvious! If you live with other people, this may complicate things a little as you'll have other people's opinions and preferences to consider.
Best of both worlds!
Can't decide between a shower and a bath? Why not go for a shower bath? As the name suggests, shower baths give you the freedom to install a shower and a bath simultaneously. If you really can't choose between the two, then why choose at all?
Shower baths are typically wider on one end than regular baths, giving you the freedom to stand and shower, or to use the bath as a regular bath (with a little more room to stretch your legs).
